How to Configure a VPN With Netgear
My VPN connection drops out between 1 and 15 times an hour. You would think that the Cisco VPN product being a frequently used commercial product for remote business connections that Netgear would use it as part of their standard test suite for their products. I plugged the laptop directly into the cable modem again bypassing the router and connected instantly to the VPN. Message 10 of It's weird, I can get on the VPN and internet from any public wifi, but not my home. This is so frustrating because I work from home. If you have port numbers for your VPN, you can open the ports under port forwarding.

In the meantime I have reverted back to 1. Yup, I tried that and still no luck. I also thought that was just for incoming vpn connections whereas I'm trying to make a connection to an external site. Either way, it didn't work. I suggest that you submit a case to our support team.

I too have been expieriencing this same issue. This is the first I have heard of the Respond-to-Ping and hoped it would be a solution but I am afraid not. I've been down for a few months through the router. I have to bypass the router to get onto my VPNs. You have also followed the steps from the link below? The router block VPN from connecting to any internet. If you bypass the router, connect the computer directly to the modem, will it work?

If you have port numbers for your VPN, you can open the ports under port forwarding. Yeah, tried that connecting direct to modem and illuminated the router and it's not the router like I was to,d by COX.

COX said it's not them, my USAF IT said it's not them it works for them when the test it from remote connection and they gave up on me and said they can't help Even when connected to the modem still will not work.

This is clear that it has nothing to do with the router. ISP might be blocking some ports for it not to work. My internet carrier Cox told me it would be my router up address causing the problem I thought about bypassing the router after I wrote the post. Message 3 of Message 4 of Message 5 of Message 6 of The problem is not resolved at all either by resetting factory mode or update to latest firmware, please reopen this issue as it bothers so many customers. Could someone from Netgear support give some suggestions? Looks like it's a very general issue for Netgear rounters.

So glad I'm not the only one going crazy over this issue. Yeah I'm having this issue too. I see other posts mentioned some port forwarding. Do you guys know how to try that? I don't even know what port to forward. Add me to the list of people with this issue. I upgraded to this router about a month ago and experience at least ten drops per day on my Cisco vpn.

I initially thought it might be a wifi issue since my company issued laptop is five or six years old and doesn't even see the 5 GHz channel. I switched to a wired connection but still get the same frequency of vpn drops. Somebody earlier in the thread suggested changing QoS settings but offered no details.

Any help would be appreciated. This router is significantly faster than my old Netgear router but the old router never dropped the vpn and I need the vpn to always be up for work. Of course, the day after my previous post, I noticed that there was a new firmware update available. At times, it happens every 10min for an hour then would stay connected for a few hours.

I read your post and updated the firmware. I tested the vpn connection and it stopped dropping me so far. Before the firmware update I was watching the VPN reconnecting about every 2 to 4 minutes.

I have had the exact same problem!! I use the same router and same VPN, and for me the issue started after I updated the firmware. Disheartening to see that this issue still stands unresolved. I have the Costco Rp router. No more dropped connection. As for my internet connection, i wouldn't know until the ISP renews my ipaddress. I'll post when my ISP changes it and see how this behaves.
